Myth-1: Eating too much sugar causes diabetes
·         Diabetes is not caused by eating too much sugar.
·         It is caused by a lack or complete absence of insulin.
·         This is a hormone that helps blood sugar go into cells.

Myth-2: People with diabetes should eat diabetic food only
·         A healthy meal plan for people with diabetes is the same as that for everyone.
·         It should be low in fat, based on whole grain, vegetables and fruits.

Myth-3: People who don’t have a family history of diabetes won’t get it
·         Some people are borne with a greater chance of developing diabetes than others.
·         However, plenty of people diagnosed with the disease don’t have a family history.
·         Weight and lifestyle can be vital factors.

Myth-4: It is good to eat as much fruits as possible
·         Fruits are healthy and contain fibre and lots of vitamins and minerals.
·         They should be included in the meal as they contain good amount of carbohydrate.
·         But always consult a dietician to know the right type and amount.

Myth-5: People with diabetes can eat any number of sugar-free products
·         Sugar-free does not mean calorie-free.
·         It is advisable to keep a check on the calorie product of the food before consuming it.
·         This way the total calorie intake can be kept under control.
