HOW CAN WE DEVELOP A MULTI-DIMENSIONAL PERSONALITY?

1. Instead of becoming lop-sided, one-dimensional individuals, we can discover the potential of our inner being and become multi-dimensional personalities and choose to live to our full potential as multi-faceted human beings.
2. This is a paradigm of inclusion rather than exclusion, and implies an inner equilibrium where our roles are integrated, where we can put our effort, interest and emergy in a fine balance of different roles and seek fulfillment in them.
3. Such integration is as much a matter of individuality as of relatedness, by manifesting itself in the form of concern for others, empowering people and helping them to feel good about themselves, because integration, balance and sensitivity make for a fine sense of culture and maturity.
4. Well-integrated individuals will not be secretive and bureaucratic, as they believe that the knowledge and insights they have gained are enhanced through sharing and not by holding them back, and will therefore show patience in getting ideas across, will find time to promote learning in others and in turn be open to education.
5. However, they should beware of falling into the trap of arrogance by imagining that they are complete, which is an ongoing concern, a journey of learning which is as long as life itself.
6. A balanced and integrated approach calls for attention to ourselves at different levels - at the physical level it means paying attention to your body, which is the instrument of your existence and well-being, by being conscious of your food habits, exercise, appearance, hygiene and health.
7. At the psychosomatic level, develop right and left brain thinking - the former is concerned with intuition, feeling and image making, while the latter with logic, facts and figures - because the right brain remains largely unutilized due to education and social conditioning.
8. While the goal is not perfection as measured by an absolute standard, we become progressively more integrated as our personality matures and our potential unfolds, and our effort should be to achieve well-being by being true to oneself.
9. We should avoid obsessions, as they make for lop-sidedness and loss of balance, and put our energy in a wide variety of roles, hobbies, spiritual, family and community interests, which will save us from being fixated on work or obsessed with petty hatreds and dislikes.
